Founded by James Emery, managing director of The COS Group, a Barry-based company, the whosbrightideawasthis challenge was set up with the aim of raising £20,000 for St David’s Foundation Hospice Care and a host of other charities including the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund.
The 17 strong team which was made up of directors and senior partners from local businesses including The COS Group, Berry Smith, Yolk Recruitment, UHY Peacheys, Bluegg Creative and Stills Design cycled from Anglesey to south Wales over four days, spending a total or 29.5 hours in the saddle and cycling at an average speed of 8.3 mph.
On completing the grueling 260 miles, James Emery, Managing Director of the COS Group said: “ We are all absolutely thrilled to have completed the challenge and we are overwhelmed with the welcome we received in the Bay when we crossed over the finishing line.
“The four days tested our stamina and at times our mental endurance especially with the poor weather conditions at the start of the journey. However, the glorious sunshine of the final two days definitely lifted our spirits and despite at times being exhausted we were all motivated and determined to complete the ride knowing that we were raising money to help some fantastic charities.”
The group cycled over 65 miles a day, stopping at Porthmadog, Aberaeron, and Brecon overnight before reaching their final destination, the basin in Cardiff Bay where they were met by were met by family, friends and business colleagues as they crossed over the finish line.
Continued James: “It is a fantastic achievement for all involved knowing that we are on course to raise over £20,000 for our charities. Furthermore, due to its resounding success we are already looking at new challenges for 2012. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has generously donated and supported us throughout the challenge.”
